Every cake has a story.

"Like mother, like daughter" is how the saying goes. This is definitely the case for Mom Sarah, whose daughter Carolina just turned two over the weekend!

City Mama Sarah has been a little mermaid lover since she was 6 years old. Now her daughter Carolina has dubbed Princess Ariel as her favorite Disney Princess. I don't blame her; we've all seen the body and volume in Ariel's hair. This cake comes right on time as this year is The Little Mermaid's 30th Anniversary.

This cake was very blue, but at the same time a very happy cake! (Get it?)

This cake is a simple & sweet vanilla bean cake with an ombre American butter cream icing. I used some awesome seashell molds that I found on Amazon and Sarah found the cake topper. I hand painted the seashells and added some glitter because the ocean is always glistening - unless you're at the beach in Ocean City, MD.

Mom and I selected a mix of blues, whites and greens to create the ombre effect for Carolina's cake. I think my favorite part about baking is seeing the happy faces when I hand off a cake. Mom said there was a lot of satisfied cake lovers but the most important smile came from Carolina. Thank you Sarah & Carolina for letting me be a part of this very special day!
